I have a customer with a covered porch with the deck possibly needing replacement. He was looking for something with little maintenance and suggested a composite material. Oh yea, the porch has a heated space under it; basement and garage which at this time need to be insulated. I have not seen composite used like traditional porch decking such as fir or mahogany which form a tight surface with tongue and groove and a good paint or oil finish. Anyone know of a good, fairly maintenance free alternative that might be reasonably priced?

How bout this price.
Main big box Canada 16' 1x6 composite $64.00 1 pcs.
Tendura is the right deck material, but theere is nothing that will make the space under it waterproof like a roof. You need to roof the deck with EPDM, then sleepers and finish material.

Don't need the deck as impervious as a roof, it has painted fir on it now. Owner is tired of scraping and painting.
I bet the paint has been acting like a sealant over the old T & G helping to prevent water from falling through. Won't be painting with the tendura. Going to need something to weatherproof the area beneath.
BTW tendura is for only covered porches so an added challenge arises if you have other spaces not covered and wanting a match.
This is a covered porch.
Slate or ceramic tile. But you gotta build the substrate right, which means plywood, Blueskin, Durock, and Ditra...in that order, from the bottom up.
