I need to replace the wood flooring on an old open porch and the owner wants the wood stained and sealed the to match the dark oak celing. I seem to recall those floors being painted all the time. Any suggestions for materials would be great.

Those old porch floors were more often painted fir.
To do what he wants, be sure the flooring is white oak, not red oak

I only ever saw 1 old house so neglected that the proch floor was still in varnish. Nearly all of them were painted eventually. It's a little hard to rule anything out as being unhistoric, but around Portland Oregon - Seattle, all those old floors were CVG fir.
