Portable Generators and Air Compressors
I have taken on a couple of jobs where I do not have access to line power and need to run an electric motor driven twin stack compressor. I currently have a 4000 watt portable generator that will not run the compressor up to speed. Is it possible to use a portable generator to run a portable electric motor driven air compressor? If so, how big a generator would I need?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

They make compressors that have a gas engine to run them.
See if you can find a sparky whi will test the actual putput of your generator.
4000 watts is enough power to run just about any compressor that can be moved. A 20 amp circuit of 110 volts requires only 2200 watts. So theoretically, your generator is overkill.
But maybe its not putting out a full 110 volts? Get it tested, then you'll know.
