Got word today that Porter Cable is recalling their newer circular saws. Seems the blade guard can get stuck open. Anybody have trouble with theirs? Mine hasn’t had a problem and I’m wondering whether I should even bother with having it looked at. Seems to me the company has been awfully quiet about it!!

Sounds like a plus - saves you from having to wedge it open. Just kidding, I'd never.... (honesty prevents me from finishing that sentence!)

well i have one of the affeected saws, well three of them actually
i'm waiting to hear back from PC but in the meantime i'll do what i always do: wait for the saw to stop before putting it down
otherwise a great saw and no the guard has never failed to operate perfectly
and no, mine do not have the "T" indicating a repair

Wait for the saw to stop???? Them things don't have a blade brake? And to think I almost bought a pair of them... PC ought to be publicly slapped and spanked.

A brake? Do they make circular saws with a brake? I never knew that! I just ease up on the switch a little before the end of the cut, and let the laws of physics be my brake. Never knew there was such a thing.
they actually have 4 variants. the 325 and the 424 have a brake, the 324 and the 423 do not.
Just took my saw to the repair center. They said the parts are on back order and it'll take 10 days or so to get my saw back.
When I heard about the recall, I played with the saw to see if I could get it to stick open. Sure enough, I could. If the blade guard is forced to retract all the way, the back end of it "sticks" to the upper housing on the saw.Toolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
Mine doesn't stick, but it doesn't have the T stamp. Does the guard rub on something? I tried it at 90 and 45 degrees, no stickie.
No, the front end of the guard sticks to the upper housing when fully retracted. You can replicate the problem by "popping" the guard all the way back with your hand very quickly (without the saw running, of course!).

Mine doesn't stick at all. I wonder if they only fix the ones that stick, or retrofit all of them. I'll take it in soon. The factory repair ceter is only about 5 miles from home.
Well, the local repair place still has my saw after 3 weeks. They haven't fixed it yet. They said the parts were on "back order."
Come on Porter Cable!! Fix my saw!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's rediculous. I'm not taking mine in, since I can't get it to stick. Maybe some parts had a size tolerance problem.
I've got two of these suckers. One is hot off the shelf, just a week old. The other is a few years old. Neither of them have a T stamped on them and neither of them bind up. I saw the recall notice posted at HD a few weeks ago. If mine was binding up, I'd be much more inclined to return the whole thing at HD and get another rather than wait 3 weeks for PC to work their magic.--Andy
