Never heard of it. Any chance it's a joke, like sky hooks and bacon stretchers?
Thats what I call a transit. Before we all had laser levels. Hey go get me the p-shooter will ya.
Probably means a slide hammer, a long tube you put a single nail in to reach tough spots, nail is driven with a rod inside the tube.
Just guessing.
Here's one:

As a former union journeyman, I can tell you that Heck has it right. It's a nail driver.

Nails,
If in fact what your son is looking for for his union "Kit" is the slide hammer then contact me . I live not far south of Portland and think I still own one that I never use. Be happy to see it put to use by someone .
It is about 36" tall, weighted hammer with a slide inside the tube, looks just like the posted pic.
My question is what type of work is he doing that he needs one. I have only used it occasionally , and then for nailing cabinets in deep recesses.

And check to see what size he wants. Mine is about 12" long, and you hit the end of the slide with a hammer to sink the nail. I picked it up at a store that specializes in roofing materials and supplies. I knew guys in Local 225 that made their own out of tubing and steel rods.George Patterson, Patterson Handyman Service
Yep, slide hammer. Very useful for getting nails in tight spots. Good Union carpentry wants nails to be in the right spot and sometimes you just can't swing a hammer in there.

There are three kinds of people: Predaters, Prey, and Paladins. For the life of me, I can't see why Prey feels safer from predators by disarming and emasculating Paladins.
