I made an interstate purchase and arranged delivery at the time of the sale/purchase. Shipping company called me yesterday – truck on its way – was in my state- and they wanted 33% more than shipping price originally quoted (and rec’d in writing via fax!). This while they had my shipment hostage on their truck! To make long story short: they honored the written price, and I went about uncrating and unpacking everything (LARGE boxes…dumpster’s worth of packing material, etc etc). Everything was in primo condition – so of course, I was totally psyched and immediate got myself a well-deserved cold libation! So anyway, after enjoying a perfect respite, I called the original out-of-state store intending to tell my salesman that all had arrived and I was a super pleased customer. Was informed by gal who answered that he was not there at the time, and could she help me? I gave my name, location, that I’d recently purchased and just rec’d shipment…and I swear I could hear her TENSION rising over the phone! When I wrapped it up with stating how pleased I was with my items and the condition they all arrived in – she remarked how relieved she was to hear that all was well and I could picture her BP dropping to normal levels again! Pretty much ditto situation for the shipping co. supv I called to say ‘thanks again for straightening out the paperwork/billing issue and BTW, all is unpacked now and is in great condition – your driver did a good job!”
Question: Why is it we are sooooooooo ready to get on the phone when something is wrong and demand reparations/remedy – but can’t find a minute to call and tell folks when something POSITIVE has occurred?
Answer: Probably because we are concerned for their health and well-being as we don’t want good folks to die of shock!

a number of times i have taken the time to call a business to compliment them on something- they do usually sound a little surprised and relieved.
having said that, i'm on about my sixth call in two days to ups (oops!) regarding a certain expensive, heavily insured but largely irreplaceable, missing package. i guess in this day and age, it at least seems like it's so rare for somebody to actually DO THEIR F***ING JOB!!! that it's a real shock to all involved when it accidentally happens...

Hey Mitch - sure hope they find your missing package!!!!!!
Hope your not in Washington. It wasn't ups but fed-ex. Saw a driver yesterday pull out in front of me, problem was he had placed his next delivery on top of his van. It flew across 4 lanes of traffic.
