I reside in northern Wisconsin and have a small post and beam home. I plan to double its size with an addition of another post and beam in the near future. Are there any post and beam companies in my area which I could contact for information regarding this project?

You might try the Timber Framing Organization at
http://www.timberframe.org/
and go down to the members list.
Another possibility is to e-mail
http://www.tfguild.org/
and see if they know anyone (they have a "contact us" on the website).
There is an organization that gives Log and Timber Frame "Expos" around the U.S., you might check
http://www.logexpo.com/
and see if there is one that will be near you.
There is also an unanswered post at
http://www.timberframemag.com/wwwboard/messages/165.html "Posted by Rock Suutala on November 06, 1998 at 23:14:55: We are building a timber frame in north central Wisconsin. Do you now of any others in our area? We are trying to determine the appraised value of our home."
You might see if you can contact them.
There is a list of log home builders at:
http://loghomeshow.com/dir/usa/wi.htm
I would assume that at least a few of them are also timber framers, or at least would know someone who is.
There was a list of timber frame builders listed in a recent issue of Timber Framing Magazine. They have a web site (http://www.timberframingmagazine.com/), but it seems to be nothing more than an add for the sponsoring advertiser. I will see if I can remember to see if I can find my copy at home.
*The above magazine reference should have been to the "Timber Frame Homes" magazine which has web site at http://www.timberframehomes.com(well the old memory just sort of goes - course, maybe it was all that wild carryin on we did after the Portland Woodworking show...)There is a list of timber framers from the magazine at:http://www.thru.to/cgi-bin/product_frames.cgibut it seems considerably shorter than the list in the magazine.I'll try and e-mail you what is listed in the magazine for Wisconsin.
