I have a client with a rotten-on-the-bottom 6×6 fir post in the basement. I’ll replace it with like PT post but had question about the best way to sit the base of the new post.
The basement gets a couple inches of water now and again (Oregon) so I was thinking to elevate the base.
I thought to use one of Simpson’s Standoff bases with the 5/8″ bolt and nut you epoxy into the concrete.
Would this be any much better than just standing it on a pad of some sort? Is it a bad idea to effectively puncture the slab in a wet basement to Epoxy the bolt in for the base?
It will later be hiding with trim and he doesn’t want a pier block down there.
Suggestions?
Thank you,
Pat

It's best to anchor it down, even if it does seem unlikely that it could ever move. That epoxy is good stuff, make sure and use plenty, and don't use it on water saturated concrete. Seems like a good solution to me.
