Post detail Rubber Roof Deck over Porch
Can anyone point me to pictures or a diagram of how the upper railing posts go through the rubber membrane and how they are weather proofed? My builder wants to bolt the rail posts onto the outside of the upper deck frame, but I’ve always seen the rail posts coming up through the membrane and bolted to the frame below. Any help is appreciated.

I think the problem with coming up through the membrane is moisture that will end up "soaking" into the posts (unless vinyl covered?) and - thus it ends up BEHIND any flashing (such as trying to waterproof chimneys with tar rather than cut-in flashing.
The one time we did a roof-top deck/rail we got our strength from the house (it was tucked into an inside corner). We set one post at the outside corner on an extra thickness of rubber on a teko post bracket - lagged and caulked.
In order to get the strength we needed in the railing we imbedded a 1 inch square steel just under the railing, on top of the ballasters, and pushed an arch up in the steel tubing to give it constant stress up and prevent sagging. It is still working good, and it's good it's not leaking because it's right over a grand piano.
I've run 3/4" all thread, to blocking below, with a 1-1/2" block round off edges wolmanized fasten to deck and seal. Apply membrane and seal the snot out of area that all thread penetrates thru block.
All thread runs up inside post 2' epoxy hole slide post down onto block, silicone bottom of post before setting all the way down, seal block and seam again.
Run bituthane around post to membrane, trim with cedar seal all sides, with special attention to bottom. let cedar trim receive back bevel cut at bottom (inside) leave slightly shy of deck surface.
Done a few this way, alot more work involved, however its been my experience over time posts attached to outside over the years start to loosen up.
