We have a ramp to put in that can’t wait for the thaw. Mid Michigan. I’ve heard a lot of different methods of getting thru frost including cans of burning charcoal etc. Property owner will pony up for a bobcat w/ an auger but I don’t think that’s the answer. Suggestions?

I've gotten through rock hard clay with a Hilti before. Just put an electrical service with my cousin this past weekend and he used a hammer drill to get through the frost also.
my grampa used 1/4 sticks of dynamite on the farm in Capac..

But don't you have to drill a hole for the dynamite? I can't image dynamite lying on the frozen ground making a very big impression.
way my dad related it to me.. grampa used an iron bar.. stabbed it in until he had a bout 6".. put the stick in and lit it..
sure made it deep enough for fence posts
this was the '20's & '30's.. farm use of dynamite was prtty common
i'm not sure grampa cared a fig about the fence posts.. i think he just liked playing with dynamiteMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
R we related?
my GrandPa "fixed" the ivy problem on the back of our house with a can of gasoline and a match!
the ivy "used to" cover the whole back of the brick house ... then the locusts came in one year ... spun a bunch of cocoons ...
guess Gramps decided to kill two birds with one stone ...
really pissed off all the old neighbors .. when the plan actually worked.
"it'll burn itself out" ... and it did!

Bigass auger or a jackhammer.
Next to our building, about 4 years back, they decided to install a "modular building". They got started about Dec 1, and managed to pick one of the coldest years in the deckade. Got the grading done, and some utility stuff, but before they could bore the pilings the ground froze solid. They ended up coming in with a rather gigantic backhoe and digging trenches about 4 feet wide, then filling them with concrete.
They will be removing the building this spring. Can't wait to see how they get those footings out.
Small bunker buster bombs with dummy charges inside. Just paint targets where you want the holes, and your tax dollars do the rest after a phone call!

There was a thread on this very subject a couple of weeks ago. Don't ahve time to search for it right now, but you may be able to find it in the archives.
Bury the area with mulch or straw for a few days.
Thanks for all the input. Evidently bobcat (and prob others) have a frost toot for their augers, might try that. Mike
