Hello,
I am installing a suspended ceiling (2′ X 4″ panels) in my basement and want to install some pot/recessed lights.
Are there any tricks and is there a special type of light I should buy?
I would imagine the panel itself cannot support the weight of the light, so I would imagine they’re mounted to the upper floor structure.
I would appreciate any info or links that would help me with this project.
Thanks in advance,
Doug

Hello,
I believe most of the "new work" can lights with the purchase of some additional hardware can be mounted to the ceiling track. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Doug,
Dan's right, they get mounted to the framework for your drop ceiling.
I use 1/2 EMT as brackets and some tie wire..but some mfrs. supply brackets in the form of C channel, that would work too
orient the brackets so the supports lay on the mains. and try to keep the fixture close to the tees and avoid the urge toput them centerd on the 4' side.too much sag
draw lines on the diagonals and find your centers. it's easier
in the old days we would cut 1/4 plywood to match the grid openng and lay it on top if the tile.
some of the old Hi-hats were pretty heavy

Thanks very much for all the info, I will look at these options.
Thanks,
