Hello, I recently shifted house and it require a lot of repairs. The pipeworks in the basement is a bit corroded, but it’s repairable. I was thinking about powder coating the pipes. I want to know the procedures to be taken before powder coating rusted pipes?

Powder Coating.
In order to powder coat the pipes you would start by taking the whole system apart. If these are gas or iron water pipes they'll probably be threaded. If you can find a union you can unscrew the whole thing one joint at a time. If these are cast iron waste pipes of considerable age they are probably caulked together with lead. You can probably get them apart by melting the lead caulking with a torch. Once you have all the pieces seperated, you'll need to take them to the powder coating company, where they will be sand blasted, sprayed with powder and then put into an oven where the powder will be fused to the metal.
If this sounds like more work than you want to do, that's because it is.
You could just wire brush off the loose rust and paint them with a rust stopping paint. Or you could leave them alone most likely with no problems.
Yeah, I'd either leave them alone or use a rust-converting primer (generally available at an auto parts place). Read the instructions on the bottle -- you should not remove all the rust before applying the primer.
Replace EVERYTHING with pex. Corroded on outside is probably restricted/corroded inside.
Water pipes.
That's assuming they are all water pipes.
True that...
If they are gas pipes, I would replace all of them with proper piping, if they are sewage pipes, I still WOULDN'T powder coat them. Flue pipes? I'd replace them too.
It is the water pipes. Thanks for all the tips. It looks like something I can't do myself. I think I will give it to the crappola spam link removed. I don't want to ruin it and have the trouble of changing the whole pipes.
SPAMMER!
