Anyone out there built one of the Timberframe packages. I have a client who wants me to build them a timberframe home with sip’s. I have never worked with any log homes/timberframes?? anyone have any suggestions on any companies that sell these “kit homes”? Owner is considering a Habitat Post and beam Kit.

Chrispy,
There are a number of companies making high-quality timber frame home packages. (Disclaimer - I am employed by one of them.) Check out the link to the Timber Frame Business Council web site - http://www.timberframe.org for information including a buyer's guide. Keep in mind that many companies only work near their home base, while others are national. Also, since no two companies do things exactly the same way, it will be hard to do an apples-to-apples comparison. Get references, visit completed homes that have been up for a few years so the timbers have had a chance to dry (some species, such as oak, are infamous for twisting, shrinking, and checking as they dry), and make sure you are comfortable with the people you will be working with.
Timber frames are not inexpensive, but they are great houses. Good luck!
