Hi all
Next week I’ll be installing 1500 sq. ft of prefished 3 1/4″x3/4″ birch micro groove Ive done a bit of hard wood but no prefinished stuff. So if ya have any tips……….
Any tricks I should know?
To match with the prefinished nosing at the stairs I’d like to be able to switch directions in the middle of a room , can I use a spline to work out from the middle with this material? Or is it better to start at the end of the room and plane a small bevel on a ripped piece at the stairs and give it a couple of coats of poly?
I figure on renting your basic pneumatic flooring nailer, might have to tape it up so it doesn’t mark the wood.
Thanks …………Rik………

why not start at the stairs? you can use a spline and reverse direction put cardboard under your tools and be careful handling the stock use a mallet with the iron spike on one side, white rubber head on other side, or gum rubber...black rubber leaves marks which are cleanable but a pain during install can really sock a plank on the corner with the soft rubber flooring mallets and not dent leading edge where the microbevel is
Thanks Ed good idea about the white mallet, last time I did hardwood I rented a nailer that came with a black mallet It was a sand job but still the marks looked like crap til it got sanded. I'll hunt down a white one.
Ya and I figure the spline is the way to go , that way all my rips will be against the walls.
