i want to add a narrow soffet over a kitchen window for the sole puropose of addng some lighting over the sink.
what is ideal for the electician? should i just frame out the space, or does he need the drywall in place on the bottom surface where the lighting will go (i assume that this is the correct answer). i would think that having it framed and the bottom closed, with the front still open would make the job easiest for the lighting man.
yes? do i need to provide access panel for future problems? i know zilch about electric. Thanks-

If you're the customer and doing the framing ,I would want to see the fixtures before you start and tell you what size openings to rough.Sometimes carpenters lay out according to drywall joints and it conflicts with where we want the centers of the fixtures.Sometimes the framing is too tight to provide easy access to the j-boxes on the fixtures(I assume you're talking cans here, right?).
I would use new construction cans before any board is hung, you cut out the openings with a rotozip. It's easier (faster/cheaper) for me,finished product nicest for you.No access holes are necessary.
thanks barry. i'll hold off doing anything and talk to the electrician when he comes (when i find one). i just had some down time tomorrow and i thought framing it in would be a good project, but i have plenty other things i can do.
