preventing moss growth on comp shingles
We recently installed a new 50 year Owens Corning comp roof and want to know if there is any way to prevent the growth of moss on it and/or the best way to remove it. We live near sunny Sacramento, CA so eliminating trees is out of the question! Thanx in advance for your input!

galv metal strip at the ridgeline... don't ask me why but... you'll never have fungus/moss... bleach will rid u of it if u already have it

Zinc strip applied along the roofline. Do a web search for roof algae or moss and you'll find suppliers. As the zinc weathers zinc oxide is produced which is toxic to mold and algae.
I'd avoid galvanized steel, because the steel will rust and stain your roof.
Note that there is a distinction between algae and moss. Zinc or copper in strips under the cap or in the shingles themselves will just about 100% prevent algae, but are only maybe 75% effective for moss.
Look for a shingle brand that is algae/moss resistant.

Live in sunnySeattle area ; copper, zinc, ferrous sulfate, commercial moss killers do not stand a chance against eh moss here, but they do slow it down some.
Own house has 2ea 2" wide zinc strips on each ridge. (4 total) and the roof run on each side is 18 feet, 3 in 12 slope. Still get spotty moss every y;er that needs to be pressure washed. Gave up on the barn, zinc on gamrel roof didn't even slow the moss down, too steep of slope? .
Moss wins over grass here too.

That is the best crop of moss that I have ever seen.
Question for you. You said you use a pressure washer. Just a regular pressure washer? Modified to achieve a very low pressure rate? I don't want to remove the granules.
I did half of my roof last year with a garden hose, which was tremendously tedious in terms of time. The only reason i didnt opt for a power washer was the damage potential.
Thanks, Ed
Must be a regional thing, but the OC products sold here (KY) are algae resitant, meaning they have copper flakes in the aggregate.
