There was a thread on favorite work shoes a while back and many of you like the same ones I do, the Wolverene Durashocks. Well, I got a shock allright the other day when I went in to get a new pair, they are now up to $155.00, and I’ll pay it if I have to, but I’m wondering if any of you know about a source maybe on line that carries this brand for less. Meanwhile I’ll do a search and see what I can come up with. Thanks.

It's not available online but I always get my Durashocks from Gabriel Brothers. They are a chain in OH, WV, PA, MD and a few other states that sell irregulars. A little glue or a missed stitch that doesn't affect the durability or comfort and most shoes are under $50. The selection is varied and changes weekly but if you're in the area, it's always worth looking. I get all my work and farm clothes there. They regularly have Carhartts or Key brand cold weather gear, all brands of jeans and flannel shirts, they have other stuff but I head straight to the working man section and don't pat attention to the less important areas.
They have a website but I don't think they have online purchases. I have mentioned them here before but I don't have any connection, just a loyal shopper. Its like a Big Lots for clothes. I always buy 2 or 3 of whatever I get and stockpile.
Jer,
Don't know which "model" you are getting, but I just bought a pair last weekend at Sears for $110 I think I paid almost that much for the previous pair close to 5 years ago.
Hope this helps,

Has anyone tried the contractor's boots from Duluth Trading?
Tried them once, never could get a pair to fit right and sent them back. Tried a 1/2 size down and still just didn't feel right. But I have one foot slightly smaller than other so it takes a little searching to find a good fit. They are great to deal with and have bought alot of other stuff from them in the past. The boots look to be made well and are made in the US, just wish they would have fit correctly. Give them a try, my work for you.

I don't like paying any more than I have to, but my grandfather used to say there are 2 things you don't cut corners on - shoes and a bed because you're either on your feet or trying to sleep most of the day. A simple thought, but very true....
I go through boots like crazy. Used to buy the cheap ($75-ish) ones on the principle that if I'm going to toss them in 8 months, why spend more. But they're gawd awful hard on the feet. I've tried knock off brands, the CAT stuff, finally cringed and paid 2 bills for a pair of Chippewa loggers. Man what a difference. Actually comfortable to be in. They've lasted just over a year, so now I'm deciding. Redwing makes one I like, and my FIL has the same pair. I'm going to try on a pair of 14 narrows and see if I like them more. If not, I'll get the Chippewas again. The redwings are $220.

AS I understand it, if you get 2 pair, and alternate them every other day, they will outlast 6 pair wearing them day in day out. Something about giving them a rest, letting the leather dry out slowly. The more I learn, the richer I become, if I ever stop learning life here will no longer be worth living.
The thing I like about redwings is that they still feel good the day before you toss them in the garbage. The cheap boots start hurting your feet many, many months before you toss them.
I've never payed more than 120 for redwings...I shop at outlets and discounters though.

Maybe it should be made of magnetic metal instead.....not kidding.
Imagine all the nails on the tips of my boots....lol....not kidding.

Thanks all. I think I may have found what I needed. The site that JFInk gave was a good one. I remember that I need a new Carhart too, my 20 year old one is just too tattered, (sniff).

There is an outfit called Sierra Trading Post that has pages of boots, never had a problem with anything but I really like the sticky rubber soles. Buy two of anything that works is a really good idea.
