I’m looking at a siding job. It’s cedar lap siding, wrap windows and corner boards. Does a dollar a square foot seem fair? I am in Wisconsin and was wondering if that is a good price.
Thanks.

or $100 a square...
NO !
*When I was doing siding (mostly 1x6 cedar lap) in new construction 9 yrs. ago I was charging $145.00 per square. You have to hustle, it takes at least two guys, preferably three and that was 9 years ago. Like everything else wages should have risen since then. This is in the NY metro area. Soffits, rakes ,vents and fascia are NOT included in that price. Bottom line though if that is the prevailing wage in your area and you can get a quality job done and make a profit do it. It seems low to me though. Do the math, to pay three guys a fair wage, comp, tools ,gas, etc. you would need to bang up 10 to 12 square a day minumum. Easy if it's a ranch,if it's a contempory with numerous corners and roof lines the going is much slower and there is a lot more scaffolding to set up and take down for each section. Time consuming for no siding going up.
*In my area, which I think is supposed to be one of the most affordable housing markets, they hang vinyl at $50 a square; labor ONLY. So $1, only for labor, might wash here, but I'd say it needs to be more; there's certainly more involved in doing a quality cedar job. I like Skookum cedar products, which are preprimed on all sides, but you don't mention if you have to do any prepriming, caulking, installing felt or mesh, etc., etc. So to stray on the side of caution, I'd say it sounds like a REALLY good deal to me. Any chance you'll hang on my next house?
*I am ashamed to admit it, but lately I've bid some vinyl resides that I didn't really want for $500.00/sq. Standard wrap, foam and side, no gutters. Sears is selling them for $6-650.00/Sq. so I was well under them. Material is around $100.00/sq.(including the wrapping and trim average) I guess this can be justified as "market pricing" or what the market will bear. But who am I to judge?
*Keith, just FYI, Sears generally marks up their contractors price 33.33% and quotes that price to their customer.
*what would you guys figure a rain screed detail as in the latest fhb would run?
