Hello all!
While I don’t post much, I love this forum.
I’m getting ready to install some tongue & groove beaded soffitt on a hysterical (historical) building. My question is this. Would you prime the tongue and grooves before installing? Since it is for a soffitt and for the most part, out of the weather I’m looking for opinions, past experiences.
Thanks for any input.

Absolutely prime all sides, use a dip tank then brush in if you've got a ton to do. Paint the showing side and touch up the cut ends before installing. The reason isn't only because of actual wettness but transpiration. If you neglect priming the back the wood will swell on the back in summer and cup in the winter, assuming these are your wet / dry seasons respectively. Priming all the way around will staplize the wood and the paint on the surface, do it once the first time.
I agree with Dave, and you might look at dipping the T&G in Cop-R-Tox first.
Don't even think about not priming the whole piece! I would also give it one very light coat of the finish..that way with the expand/contract you will not have an exposed edge.
