So the Hardie shingle panels – unlike the siding – cannot be ordered pre-primed.
On the 4′ long panels, I’m thinking it would be a good idea, before installation, to prime the exposed raw edges in the cuts that give the individual shingle look, and to prime the backs of the panels.
Any wise thoughts on this?
THanks.

ssshhhhhhhh!
We primed ours. Front, back and slots. Rolled the front and back, brushed the slots. It's tedious.

For the slots you might be able to make your own tool. Something like a really tough sponge cut to just the right thickness, or a paint stirrer wrapped carefully with the right number of thicknesses of rag.
Be sure to use acrylic primer like the manufacturer recommends. 100% acrylic is the best. Do not use oil based primer.
