Help! Help! Help!
The problem is a 1950’s Herman Miller rosewood four section table. I have been able to refinish three of the four panels and get the finish to adhere BUT the fourth panel has peeled/bubbled twice. The panels were sanded with 220 grit paper after they were chemically stripped and washed. The finish schedule is two coats of super blond dewaxed shellac with alcohol soluble walnut stain for color. This is followed by 15 to 20 coats of catalyzed lacquer sprayed over the course of two days. After 15 days the the lacquer in finsh sanded with 1000,1200,1500,&2000 grit paper followed by machine RO buffing with Maguier’s #11 using a foam polishing pad at~2500rpm. Within two months the finish on this one panel cracks allong the grain and then blisters. The finish can be flacked off with a razor knife and the flaking seems to indicate that the finish is not adhering to the surface.
I realize that I will once again need to start from “scratch.” What suggestions do all ya’ all have?
