We all know that any building process has right and wrong ways to accomplish the desired result.
A sturdy subfloor is one of the most fundamental building requirements and one of the least understood.
I have discvered an almost foolproof method of insuring a good, sound subfloor.
this does not rely on any of the “conventional wisdom” of floor construction.
using the right materials is a good start.
as is using them properly.
using adhesive is also very beneficial.
and usig the proper fasteners was an important factor in subfloor performance, before I made this startling discovery.
Usually One type of fastener is best for one type of application.
But a subfloor can require a lot of it’s fasteners so one type is not always best.
to deal with all the stresses and loads that will a subflor will encounter a carpenter must make use of a VARIETY of fasteners.
this will ensure the subfloor will be able to handle whatever is thrown at it or on it.
here is a typical example of a good variety of fasteners:

only flaw with that theory is that there were NO slotted screws!!!

The same is true of carpet. Sometimes the magic carpets try to get away and try to fly out the window. Extensive fastening is required upto and including 2" ring shanks.
I decided to liberate my magic carpets and this is what I found:
