pt wood as blocking or lots of waste
Hello, finishing up my latest project and wanted to use the cutouts from the door openings. to install some blocking for catching the drywall edges (4′ center in the ceiling). From what I read it appears that the drwyall screws will corrode over time so should I not use any pt inside except for the baseplates? Then again what about screwing the drwyall into the pt bottom plate?

use glue to hold the drywall and screws to fasten, after the glue sets, doesn't really matter if the the screws fail.
You're touching on one of my pet peeves... Anytime the new ACQ is in use, ACQ rated fasteners should be used when connecting to it. But in new construction, how many framers think to use ACQ nails when attaching studs to the bottom plate? I haven't seen it yet here in the Atlanta area... As long as whatever is being put into the treated lumber as a fastener is rated for that treated lumber, it would be fine to use treated wood for blocking or any number of other tasks. I'd hesitate to use it for finer tolerance work because of the shrinkage factor but that shouldn't really be an issue for what you're talking about doing.
Dan,
ACQ is garbage as it is and causes more problems than it's worth. Do the RIGHT thing and not use it inside for nailers. It will twist and turn anyway. Get doug fir or whatever you framed your addition with and use that for nailers. Then you don't have to worry about what nails our sheetrock screws you use.
Screw the sheetrock in a the bottom PT plate with ACQ rated screws.
Thank for responses, well I went ahead and torn the seven that I had already installed. They make drywall screws rated for the new pt? I did use fastners rated for the new pressure treated to install the studs......dont know why I didn't think about it before I started using them for blocking. Guess I didn't want to cut up some studs for blocking.

If they don't then I'd love to here what everyone is using to screw drywall into a PT bottom plate.>> Guess I didn't want to cut up some studs for blocking. <<You have to use your framing lumber for blocking/nailers. What did you use for your ceiling nailers?Joe Carola
i used what ever scarp I left, most of it was I used for the framing but came but about 8 or 9 short. Figured I would use the pt bottom plate that was spanning the doorways. Wasn't till this morning I remebered about the corrsion issues. They are all gone now anyways.

They make ACQ rated decking screws, which are essentially higher quality drywall screws. I use them for all sorts of things it would be sinful to use drywall screws on.Andy
