ended up with a toilet in a box from HD… priced @$79.99ea… went through the bidroom and got them for $67ea…
went to pick up a cheap-o Orion for $42 and they sub’d a “STAR” what a POS… wouldn’t even let them load it…
the HD unit looks good… I looked at several… and they all had a good finish… the parts in the tank looked fine… (not cheap) the height on them was about 2″ above standard and though not enlongated… they didn’t look small…
I took one and hooked it up… we flushed it a few times… seemed to be a one flush deal… the finish and flush was as good as a $229 kohler we had next to it… in fact it looked better and sat higher… came with a pretty nice seat… wax ring and bolt set… so… for $2500.00 I can get finished with that part anyway… btw… I’d install one of these in my own home anyday… which is kinda how i judge anything i use…

Glad to hear that you got that figured out!!
At that price did it have a glazed trapway?
Jeff
they are glazed inside the trap yes... and the finish inside where the bowl & tank meet is finished.... by finished... many that i looked at were pretty rough in that area... which i guess would/could affect flow...
I looked at a ton of gravity feed toilets.... and did alot of google'n... and i still can't really tell you what makes a gravity toilet flush well... with 3.5 gallon flushes it seems it just didn't matter all that much even poor designs would flush well... now it seems it's all about how fast and with how much force you can get the water out of the tank and into the bowl...
higher tank and lower trap... why most handicap toilets flush well.. the trap is low... the tank is high...
I hope these work out... I went with the HD unit because it's pretty beefy... sits higher... the finish is nice... it has a metal flush lever... and I got bonus points on my HD card... and If they suck I can take them back... they might not like me bring'n 35 units back but... i know they'll take em back...
first time I purchased something I got HD to bid on...
I haven't learned much yet... but I'll update this when I have...

pony, can you leave the make and model, I may need a couple.
Thanks...
tg4200 is the model i think... the stock number they look them up by is a 303-635
hope that helps... if u need more I'll check... just happened to have written that down

I hope yours work better than mine. I installed two of them (same SKU) in a recent house. First one, no problems. Opened the box on the second one and it had a large crack in the bowl. Returned it. Installed the new one and it had a small weep from the tank... Barely noticable casting flaw. Returned the tank. 3rd time was ok... Way too may trips back to HD..
man thanks for the heads up... the one i purchased off the shelf to test was fine... but i'll keep an eye on them... same thing happened with me on some kohler units in my house... 3 trips to get one of them working... and it's never been as good as the other one... i can see a casting flaw in the trap really screw'n things up
thanks

Be sure & let the REZ know, there oughta be a substantial mark down on a used crapper?

I can't believe nobody's said that it was a Royal Flush!
does he know you can flush them and use them more than once?
Geez, I installed a toilet yesterday, a Toto with a soft-close seat, cost about $300. Can't get them anywhere near $79 or even $179.
I don't know how you can test a toilet's flushing action without dropping something semi-solid in it, maybe bean paste or something.
bean paste or something... key word...

About 4-5 inch piece of fresh eye-talien sausage with the casing removed. Doesn't seem to matter if it is mild or hot. I did this for the y2k fiasco to see if we could flush the 'modes in the office building using water dipped out of a barrel."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Yeah, do we need an as-built drawing or something?
MadScientist has a thread about doing as-builts from a distance- that's the only way I would want to do that one. A long distance.

Good buy, you must be flush with pride.
saw the title and had to open it, suspected it was your post, dont know anybody else like that here <G>
if it was up to me... I'd clean up 35 used toilets replace the guts and be done with it... we have good water so almost zero deposits.. unless a toilet is cracked around here there is nothing that can really screw up a bowl or a tank... and all but never seen one that you couldn't clean up to look new (if it was a good toilet to start with...) but hard to sell condo's with rehab'd toilets no matter how much you try to call them "green"...
