I’ve had red wings, and Wolverines and the Wolverines have lasted longer (usually about 14 months) than the Red Wings in the past. I’ve always made it a habit of buying a new pair every year. Well I put on a new pair of Wolverines 3 months ago and noticed this morning the sole is wearing thin and is delaminating in 2 locations. Anybody else have beter luck than I have with them?
Not sure I want to have these repaired.

I've had some Wolverines last for a year or so and then I've had them only last a few months. Not sure why that is. Now I just buy whatever is on sale under a hundred bucks. Some are definitely better than others.
I bought a pair of Wolverines on sale for a hundred and sixty bucks. The tread has almost compleletly worn off. I've not had them but for about six months. I am never buying another pair again!
I have a pair of Red Wings that are 10 years old, of course I haven't worn them in 9>G<
no experience with red wings however, the reason that your current pair are wearing thin may be because they were made in china.
alot of work boots makers have been quietly outsourcing to you know where w/o telling anyone.
the best boots i've ever had are made by Terra and they are made in north america.
Another quality pair I need to check out. Also Russell moccasins are top notch. My hunting boots are from them and are custom made. While not cheap they fit well and seem to last forever.ML
I just coughed it up for a pair of Danner Quarry gtx.
They seem like they're going to be around a while and made in the US.
I use to wear Danners alot but they wore out just as fast as the cheapos so I quit buying them.
But, man did they ever fit great right outa the box. Most comfortable boots I'd ever owned.
The Danner Boot factory in Portland Oregon will resole any boots for about $20 per boot. My hunting boots fit like a glove right out of the box.
I've been working on my feet for over 30 years, and it only took the first few to find a boot that I can highly recommend - WESCO -West Coast Shoe Company in Scappoose Oregon. Hand built, I have mine custom fitted, they are not cheap, but they can be rebuilt like new at the factory, and I never have to think about my feet.
I've worn Wolverine Durashocks for the past 10 years. The biggest reason being that they are the most comfortable. They usually last a little over a year, but that's from wearing them every single day.
I now need a new pair and after reading this am a little chicken to lay out the $140. I'll try it but...
Everything changes I guess
Several older men in the shoe repair business have told me that it's important to let shoes and boots rest and air out for 24 hours or more, in order to get maximum life out of the leather and maximum comfort for the feet.
So owning two pairs and switching back and forth is a wise move. That also makes it possible to let a soaking wet pair dry without putting them over heat, something that is bound to screw up good shoe leather and the construction of the shoe/boot.
well I sent an email to Wolverine and will be getting a RA# to send them back to let them determine if it is a manufacturing defect. If it is I get a new pair if not I have bought my last pair.ML
I just bought a pair of Carharts (made by Redwing) and some fancy smancy convection drier to keep them - hmm- dry I guess.
I have a pair of wolverines that have held up great but they aren't all that comfortable. No Tag
I have had a Peet brand dryer for about ten years and put my boots on it everyday after work. It keeps them dry(obviously) but more important it helps keep the shoes from getting funky smelling. I currently am wearing Carhartt boots now, but not overly impressed. I always wore Red Wings and am going to pick up my new pair on friday. If you buy Red wings get a ppair with the 2.0 sole, I get 2 yearsout of these boots.
Peet- that's what it is.
I got the one that dries boots and gloves both.
I had Redwings before the wolverines and they hurt my feet as well- maybe just a bad fit.No Tag
I read that advice on this site 8 years ago or so and bought a second pair of boots. I bet it doubled the life of my boots. I rotate a pair each day. More comforable in extreme weather not to put on a soggy set of boots too! DanT
I've worn Redwings for for 15 yrs, same style. Last year they discontinued my size (12 AA) and had to go with a different style and a B width, they might my last pair.
What impressed me with Redwings was, the fit out of box, durability and they were made in USA.The new ones are OK, the don't fit as well and while they are assembled in USA, the parts parts come from China. Redwings seem to be going the way of other shoe mfg. and moving to China. I think I'll look into Danner boots next time
