I have been researching the use of a tankless waterheater. I have a split system where I have one waterheater running a dishwasher, clothes washer, sink and half bath. the use of this equipment really lends itself to tankless heater and I’ve sized the unit. Looked at them at home depot and am unable to get a clear answer on one question, or should I say the people at home depot raised a question. They told me that I will have to run two separate 220 v lines to the unit, whereas the typical waterheater has only one line running to it. Is this correct.
I appreciate comments and installation stories.

the answer is specific to the unit you choose. The Powerstar AE115, for example, is fed from two 40 amp double pole breakers (17 Kwatts). The AE125 is fed from THREE 40amp double pole breakers (27 Kwatts). Obviously, you better have at least 200 amp main service if you select the latter model !
If that seems like a lot of power to you, it is because you must heat the water as fast as you use it. The storage type heaters act as a buffer and allow heating at a lower rate.
