I am about to start trimming out my house (windows, doors, base, crown) and need to buy a CMS. I don’t really think I need a slider for this and I really don’t want to spend $500 (or at least my wife says I don’t).
Was looking at the Dewalt 705S (which you see everywhere) and it looks OK, but I know some of you don’t like it. There’s the Makita LS1221 which some of you have said good things about; I couldn’t see any zero adjustment for the detents though; the Dewalt has lots of adjustment available, but why should you need it (that much anyway)? The sliding arm on the Makita blade guard would seem to be a problem if it trys to stick.
What I had not seen before is a Porter Cable 3802. Looks pretty solid, had a sliding fence, like the way you can set it on a 2×4 base (if desired). But the scale looked a little crude (does that matter if the detents are accurate?).
Any thoughts? I’m looking to spend $300, and I don’t need perfection, but want something that is adequate and will last.
