I have a question regarding radiant reflective barriers (the foil backing on plywood or OSB) used for roofing. I’ve noticed that they greatly increase the surface temperature of the roofing material (specifically comp). How does the large increase in surface temperature (I’d estimate it at nearly a 20 degree increase) effect the longevity and or warranty of the roofing. I’m really concerned because I was roofing a house and when the temperature hit 75 degrees, I’d have to start stepping carefully. I have to believe that all that extra cooking lessens the life of a roof. That said, they do drop attic temperatures nicely. The local municipalities (in California)have started requiring it for new construction.
