Radiant floor heating for and existing b
I’ve got and existing basement and would like to take the old hot water baseboard out and put in radiant floor heating. Any thoughts ? It seems easy enough to do but I’m not sure if its a wise idea. Tile and carpet will go down as flooring. Thanks for the help.

Hi Rich--
Radiant floors in a basement are great, but ideally you would have the tubes in the concrete floor already. Your options now are to put tubes on top of the concrete and pour another slab of regular concrete or lightweight gypcrete on top, or you could nail down sleepers, run the tubes with aluminum reflector pans underneath, then plywood on top. I would vote for option A but either way you do lose some headroom.
You'll also need a special mixing-valve to step the temperature down from what runs through the baseboard units.
