I’m looking for feedback from anyone who has experience with either small boilers or wall mounted instant heat units as heat sources for radiant floor heating. I will be building a small development of 1150-1450 sq.ft. patio homes, on insulated concrete slabs. I know the heating load wont be too bad but I would like to get domestic hot water from the same units. I have nat. gas on site. Space is at a premium, which is why I looked at some of the wall type units, but I am concerned about hard water being a problem. Any ideas?

Baxi makes a direct-vent, wall-hung unit that does both heating and DHW. They aren't cheap, but they do include a lot of the external plumbing parts that would normally be installed separately, so there are some savings on the installation.
