I was in Maryland a last year and I saw a fence made out of wood that was stained a pleasant shade of green. The whole fence was made out of this wood, the boards, the 2×4’s and the 4×4 posts. I had never seen anything like this before. I live in SF bay area, and we use a combination of pressure treated lumber, and redwood and or cedar for fences.
Then I started hearing about radiata pine, is this what I saw back in Maryland? You can get radiata pine in the SF bay area, but currently only in products like Advantage Plus, which is a preprimed trim , super expensive, and special order only.
Is Radiata pine available stock in certain markets and not others?

Around here, in Michigan, Radiatta pine is about all you can get, at a retail level. I'm not even sure where all it's native to, but a lot of the trim and trim lumber is made by Arauco (sp. ?). and they are apparently in Chile.
After 25-30 years of using Ponderosa or sugar pine, I really don't care for Radiatta pine. It's more unstable, pretty dense for staining, wild grain at times. It is more durable and holds fasteners better though.

I would guess you were seeing SYP PT fencing in MD.
I would NOT use radiata pine for anything exterior. I don't know, but have been told that most radiata comes from australia and NZ
