Hey All,
For installation in the northeast do you prefer vinyl or aluminum? This is a home owner replacement of existing gutters that are made of 10ft Al sections. They have reached the end of their time, and winter is a comin’.

Suggest Aluminum. Heavy gauge if possible.
Vinyl gets brittle and cracks in the ice. If they made a heavier grade, it would probably be a good option, but the stuff available is just too flimsy.
Heavy guage aluminum, definitely.
And make is "seamless".
I ended up paying about 75% more than regular gutters and had super heavy gauge seamless gutters put on with the "gutter guard system" , and have had no clogs or overflows. There seems to be a ton of debate on if they are cost effective or not, but not having to get on my roof in a storm and trying to snake out a clogged gutter makes it all worthwhile.
I am also terrified of heights, so knowing I wont be on the roof again makes me happy too.
I've had very good luck with simple snap-on plastic screens. These are different from the screen stuff that comes in a roll in that they stay put better and don't have to be tucked under the front edge of the gutter (and therefore collect trash there). There are also a number of retrofit type "gutter helmet" options, some for DIY install.
Copper is finest, but if it must be, the order of the day is seamless aluminum.
