What are the pro’s and con’s of ducted vs. ductless range hoods? Any specific suggestions or brand recommendations about undermounted models?
This will be part of a total kitchen renovation. New cabinets will be white painted, raised panel. I don’t think I want to go with a custom cabinet hood since I’d be losing 30 ” of upper cabinet storage space.
Thanks.

A hood that doesn't vent to the exterior is going to end up turning your nice white cabs yellow. I have yet to see one that actually removes enough smoke etc to keep the kitchen air clear.
Good points, and ones I had not considered. Thanks for your input.
If you don't cook like your grandmother or a macdonalds, I'm not sure you'd have a color change on those cabs you couldn't clean off with a bit soap and water. I offer customers either way and they choose according to how they see their use is going to be. Outside wall where you dont eat up cab space with ductwork, most opt for venting out. Hood or micro in the middle of the house and no soffit wanted, they usually go for self venting.
You can custom the hood cover(what you see straight on) inserting a simple filter/light/control exhaust unit. The depth is maybe 10". I think broan has a non hooded fan set up, maybe fantech. I installed one of these (link below) in a custom box. Maybe it'll give you some ideas. Otherwise, buy a hood, looks mainly a decision factor as the operation is pretty much the same in all. Light / Fan. Some are quieter, by a little. Remote fan is the quietest.
