Being an eco-conscious homeowner, I decided to insulate under the floor of our 1 story house in northern California. The crawl space is limited and I didn’t relish the thought of wrestling with fiberglass inches above my face, so I spent the extra money to buy encapsulated fiberglass insulation.
Everything worked out as well as could be expected but the new insulation seemed to be a magnet for rats. They nested in about 1/3 of the insulation, which I had to remove because it stank so badly. I did my best to cover up all possible gaps and holes with 1/4″ wire mesh in an attempt to keep them out, but I’m leary of replacing the removed insulation for fear of attracting them again and wasting a bunch of time and money.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bob Muzzy
