The truck rearview mirror fell off in this heat and I’ve tried superglue and some glass-to-metal crapthat didn’t work either. Hoping someone has the success story to share regarding the right stuff to use.

Got my kit at Wal Mart in the auto accessories dept.
Working so far.
what the heck
was I thinking?
In the auto parts stores around here there are two kinds. Surprisingly, the cheapest of the two seems to work the best.
The cheaper one works with water vapor. It really works well if you set yer cup of steaming coffe on the floor below it, and leave it overnight, before you put the mirror back on the button.

There's your excuse! Go get that dream car you always wanted!
I had the same problem with my truck. I tried superglue, etc., darn thing still kept falling off. I finally went to a local autoglass shop where they attached it properly, to factory specs. It did not cost much. I was happy.
Was it a Ford? Reason I ask is a buddy had the same thing happen to his Ford on the same day.Half of good living is staying out of bad situations.

Rez, any auto supply store has the kit. Probably the bigger stores sell more so inventory changes more often. Do EXACTLY what the instructions say & it works.
Do NOT put the damn thing on upside down, the mirror won't fit too well that way....
Put some tape or something on the outside to mark where it goes before you scrape the glue off the inside.

the #### glue ain't gonna hold.... 16d gal. spiral shank nails, nail gun, that'll do it!
no turn left unstoned
I have real good luck with that glue. I can usually get at least one finger stuck to whatever it is I want glued together. Doesn't actually seem to be good for much except those mirror thingees and fingers. At least it doesn't cost as much as it used to. Joe H
Are we not trying to put together a crew for Junkyard wars??????? Come on people!!!!!!!! If we are going to win the wars of the junkyard, we have to think in the right frame of mind. I talking about the most important tool in any of your tool boxes. It holds, it binds, it replaces any glue, rivet or nail.
I'm talking duct tape.

OK................Try this on the mirror then:
Drill a 3/16" hole in the windshield where the mirror mount goes.Drill a corresponding hole in the mount, pass a stove bolt through from the outside after placing a rubber washer on,and screw the nut on.
If you use a long bolt, you could have a place to hang your hat.what the heck was I thinking?
Heck, you don't need a long bolt to hang your hat, whatcha think the mirror is there for? Joe H
You know...you're right......

Wash hands. Scrape glass and plate with a razor blade to remove every trace of the previous glue. Clean the spot on the windshield and the mounting plate that has been removed from the mirror with lacquer thinner or alcohol. Use a cotton ball. Discard the first ball and do it again with another. If there is any sign of contamination repeat the process. Allow everything to dry. Don't touch either surface once they are clean.
Use a quality, name brand, glue designed for the job. I like the 3M kit that sells for about $2 at the parts store. Apply the glue, one good sizes drop, to the smaller face, you did clean the right face didn't you, and place this in position with the small end up. (Note: Your mounting may differ so be careful. If you glue the wrong face or mount it up side down you will have to remove the plate with acetone and start over.) Use a piece of masking tape to hold it tightly in place overnight. In the morning mount the mirror and fasten with the set screw and scrub off any glue from the tape with alcohol or razor. Be careful with that razor as it is possible to scratch the glass.
Most of these things fail because dirt or oil, especially from fingers, gets in the way.
