I doubt that this affects many, but there have been a couple of threads on fire sprinkler systems, so I thought I would toss this up here.
USA today has an article on a fairly large recall of GB model Central Sprinkler fire sprinkler heads which were made by Tyco International. Reportedly some spinkler heads fail to operate because of corrosion.
“UL warned of GB’s reliability problem in February 2000. It reissued a warning in April after testing 1,800 sprinklers from 100 locations and finding that 26% failed at recommended water pressure. No injuries have been tied to the sprinkler heads, but their failure is blamed for damage to a home in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1999. “Half the sprinkler heads failed catastrophically, causing about $200,000 damage,” says Montecito Fire Protection District Marshal Jim Langhorne.”
