Howdy-
Bought some trims for my 4″ ic incadescent housings. Even though the retainer clips seem beefy enough, I can’t get the trims to sit completly flush against the ceiling. Any tips? The housing isn’t protruding below the ceiling so thats not the issue.
FWIW, the housings are Halo and the trims are Elite.
Thanks, kevin

Nah, it won't flush because the septic's backed up.

It's recognized as trim in my neck of the woods.
Seriously though, you should purchase the same brands for the trim and can.
Not familiar with your trims but here are some things that have bothered installations.
The trims could be hitting something inside the can/temp sensor, those bent out brackets for other style trims, even the top of the can. If the can housing is adjustible, loosen the 3 screws on the side and slide it up a bit, the trim won't go up into the housing as far. The bent out brackets, bend them back towards the side of the can.

Thanks, good tips.
I wasn't able to find anything that said the trims would only work with brands xyz.... so I thought I'd give it a try. I guess its no surprise, with different trims and different housing makers. The Halo trims are way spendy- $30+. The eLite trims I used (as well as others at http://www.usalight.com) are a lot more reasonable- @$10. But yeah, they don't fit 100%.
I'm thinking of making a filler ring from 1/8" mdf or something.

btw- I know its not the septic 'cause we have 'city' sewer :oP
If you are going to make a "FILLER", just be aware of the heat those cans will produce. I would not put something that will burn between the trims and the cans maddog
those trims are not designed for those cans , you can alter some things like calvin says, most likely though, the trims will never fit snugly, and you will be adjusting them frequently
