Recessed lighting-Before / after drywall
I am not a pro like many of you , but an avid DIY’er. We have just begun a 16 x 34 addition.I have contracted out everything on the outside and am planning on doing everything on the inside myself except the drywall. My question is this- Should I install the cans for the recessed lighting before or after the drywallers come in? I don’t know what tyhe normal progression is. Thanks

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
it's a mighty good idea to have the wiring in place anyway.
There are remodeling cans available, but it is far easier to get the frames and hang them before.
Pssst....
Take photos and measurements before drywall so you can find the one the drywallers forget to cut out.

Install the cans, then relocate them 'cause the wife says there not center. Locate them center according to the furniture, not the walls, cause she may want to locate them after everything is all done.
Sorry, no offence to the wife. She usually is the one into more detail, us men aren't usually so.
Do not install the trim ring, they will get dirty, painted or misplaced. Also look inside, there are screws to adjust its depth to the thickness of the drywall to keep the drywallers from covering it up.
you forgot the one where "you should forget to put in 3-way.....cause you can always put that in later" ...."right honey"...grrrrrr
Thanks to everybody who replied. By the way, Sungod, are our wives related?
