I’m remodelling my great room, and would like to install recessed lighting. My ceiling is a cathedral, with a 12/12 pitch. so far, I am unable to find a remodel style fixture that is IC rated to use. The space above the ceiling is 8 inches. What fixture/lens would work?
If I cannot use recessed, I dont know what to do as alternative. I dont want it to look tacky and track lighting may detract from the tongue-in-groove pine ceiling. What surface mount would you suggest?
thanks!

What kind of climate do you have? With only 8" in the rafter bays, it would be difficult to insulate properly above the cans. I would give careful consideration to alternatives.

Make wooden boxes - of a given volume - that would fasten to the ceiling. The box top would be sloped at 12/12, the bottom would of course be level. Your wire would exit the ceiling and immediately enter the box. These are accepted in some jurisdictions.
Ask your electrical inspector if he would pass these. Have him write in the interior dimensions on your sketch.
Look at these web sites: in the 8" bay height you have little
room for anything incandescant. Also do a Google on fiber optic lighting. These install the same as the wiring for can lights, but if you have an adjacent attic space, ther is one bulb to change.

good hunting..
Low voltage "track" with spots and pendants could solve the problem......with a sizable amount of bucks......
There are smaller remodel low voltage cans also, that might give you an option.
Depending on climate, as has been suggested.......cans can rain.
