You may wish to check with a lighting designer at a light store. I brought my plans with me and was fortunate to meet with a lighting designer who walked me through my plan, plus I was able to check out the different lights, etc. as well as proper placement there also. Sarah Susanka also offered wonderful advice in a couple of her books so I had a bit of a head start. What I can pass on to you is in a kitchen I used 6" pot lights, and spaced the lights 3 feet apart and approximately 18" away from the wall. My sink was in the centre of the plan so that was my starting point. I had a potlight installed at the foot of the stairs (centered), at the landing in the middle of the stairs and on top of the stairs, plus in front of any doors (ie. bedroom and bathroom). Hope this helps.
Thanks, that was to be my next step.
