Four years ago I installed white cedar shakes, which I dipped in a CWF bath and applied them on an exterior wall as siding with painted white trim. In the course of painting the trim I can see now how bad the shingles are. Shingles are dried out, small spots of black mold? are formed and depending on the exposure they have suffered the ravages of time. Also the dormer side walls on the roof have that creeping Cape Cod shingle gray color, no doubt due to our tough winters here in Western N.Y.
Question No. 1 : How best to clean those fragile white cedar shingles to prepare for refinishing ?
Question No. 2 : Got any suggestions for good products to refinish with ? The CWF product I used I was not impressed with. I still want the natural beauty of the cedar to shine through.
Question No. 3 : Application of product, the shingles are thirsty for protection, but I have painted trim adjacent to it.
