I’m starting my first hardwood floor refinishing project. I believe the wood is Red Oak. I would like to fill in the cracks between the boards. I saw some filler at the store and the gentleman there recomended using it and said it would do the trick. Reading the label I found it is a water based product and I plan to use and oil based polyurethane and I’m very apprehinsive about compatability. Any suggestions, comments please. Thank you. Craig

Should be OK, just let it dry real good before you lay on the poly.
It's usually not a good idea to fill the joints between the boards. The wood is going to expand and contract with the seasons and the filler will tend to work it's way out. The wood movement will vary depending on your climate, the moisture levels in the house, the width of the flooring and whether it's flat sawn or quarter sawn.
