Hi All,
I just added some new cabinets to an existing kitchen. Typical oak with a whitewashed/pickled finish. The HO wants them all to be darker. I’m guessing the best way is to whitewash the new to match the old then strip them. I think this as I’m betting that there is no way to get all the whitewash off to raw wood- not easily anyway. I don’t get the impression the HO wants to put forth such an effort
The HO wants them all to be darker sort of a honey/mission look. The HO is doing the work and what we need is a simple 1 or 2 step process they can do. With the little bit of white was that will be left I’m at a loss to suggest a finish that will meet these criteria.
My first idea is one of the oil-urethane finishes as it will be wiped on. I did a tabletop and 3 coats was more than adequate and quite forgiving. How do you think this will act with the whitewash underneath?
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
N
