I’m in the market for a new roof and have one aspect of the job where I’m getting mixed solutions. There is a roof to wall meeting where there is now galvanized, 90 degree flashing. You can’t see much of it, but rust is visible in about four patches. I assume there is more rust, but it seems superficial based on poking with a screwdriver. One opinion is to replace it, but this involves removing fascia board, maybe disturbing some masonry work. The other is to prep and paint. The first one makes me nervous because I’m not sure if this is the tip of a bigger project. How far does the flashing go up the wall? How is it secured? Prep and paint is attractive, but will I regret it in 5 years. If I paint, any recommendations on prepping and painting? I’ll have copper put in if I replace. Thanks for any input.
