Relaying reclaimed apitong flooring

I have come upon a substantial quantity of 3/4″ x2 1/4″ apitong or keruing flooring that was removed from a high school without destroying the t&g (for the vast most part!) denailed, bundled and put away..in average lengths of about 14′. However there is a bit of “crap”—dirt mixed with finsh and cleaning products, on the joining edge between the tounge and the groove….not all the time, and not too bad, more than I think would be efficient to clean wih a chisel- but not so nasty that I dont think it couldn’t be cleaned up and laid up tight. So what do I use? A 3hp shaper with a self feed and a closely matching t&g set? If so has anyone done this? Am I nuts, did someone out there try this and find out what actually does work? Got a better idea? Previously, I have laid it with the old finish still on, let the floor sander take it off, and save my planer for better things,
P.S….. fastening- nails or staples?

Greetings mike,

I'd try scraping it with a small carbide paint scraper, the kind with the replacable blades. Remachining it is too much work, and the grit will eat your tooling pretty fast.
