Is there an average percentage or square foot cost number for each trade on a remodel? Lets say you have a budget of $300,000.00 for a 1,300 sq ft remodel. I understand in new construction and remodel there is a square foot cost, such as ” our cost on this remodel came out to $150 a square foot”. I am interested in that number, as well as trade percentage averages. For example ” the foundation work on my jobs averages $20 a square foot.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

After its all done, you can say it came out to be 230/ft
Few of us price even new work by the foot, other than to ballpark. Remodeling is worse. Plan 20% increase for contingencies.

Your trying to oversimplify a very complicated thing Yojimbo.
you could certainly do that with new construction, assuming that you're going to build the same house over and over.

You might be able to say "my last basement came out at 20 /sf." But for a SF cost on "remodel"? Never heard of it, not to say it's not done, but there's a big difference in paint carpet and trim and a kitchen and bath. Remodeling magazine comes the closest to what you're looking for in the Cost vs Value issue. It assigns costs and rcvd value to certain remodeling jobs like Master Suite, Kitchen, Siding, Bath etc. Never seen a breakdown for subtrades. It would have to be for guess work only.

Well, the shower door guy came out and installed a 1/2" thick door unit 42" wide for $900, so I figure he's around $6000/SF
Seriously, no one will be able to give you specific useful numbers. There are a few trades that are easy to figure by the foot.... hardwood floor refinishing. There are others that go by the square foot of material.... drywall. There are others that go by the unit... plumbing per fixture or electrical per box.
If it was easy everyone would be doing it.
