I built a new storage building/peacock coop about 200’ from my house. I’d like to control the lights from the house, so I’ve looked at a number of available wi-fi smart switches. Some if them claim to work at that distance, but customer reviews say they don’t. Any budget-friendly real world options? Ideally I would like one of the models with the receiver in the switch box at the outbuilding with a surface mount switch in the house, but if those models won’t work I’d be satisfied with the 2nd switch being a virtual one on my phone.

Casetas will work so long as wifi is strong where the switch is so if switch is in separate building there must be a wifi signal at the separate building
Lutron says 30 feet. “ The Range of the Caséta system is 30ft from the the Smart Bridge to any device in the system” My wi-fi extends further than that, but not 200’!
Home automation systems could be your solution. Some use the power wires for signal transmission.
X-10 was the original hard wire only system, and is still available.
Insteon is the latest technology, and is dual-band, both RF wireless, and through the power wires.
RF only systems such as Z-Wave would also work. although you are close to the range limit, 100 meter is open air. Repeaters are available for extending the range.
For an Insteon setup, cost will start at about $100 for a switch and remote controller.
Thanks, I remember reading elsewhere about the X-10 system, but couldn't remember its name. It would seem I’m well within the100 meter range of RF, I’m 200’, 100 meters is 328’. I’ll check them out too. Thanks again!
