I would like to remove a ceramic tile floor covering from my kitchen. I talking about 350 sq. ft. Some of the tiles (20) have come loose and some are cracked (15). Most of the tiles are still intact and tight to the floor. They are installed on a double layer of 5/8 plywood screwed to 2×8 joist. How do I get them off?

In a nutshell: break, then scrape. (put on your safety glasses first)
The PROS here will soon pipe in more details, I'm sure!

WOW!!! What a Ride!
easy way is to go to a tool rental store and get a power floor scraper for the day.

If they're on a backer or underlayment, you might be able to break thru the tile and backer then lift both out together. It takes a serious pry bar and lots of "oomph", but it can be pretty effective after you get it started.
If you aren't removing the old cabinets, this isn't a good method. If they sit directly on the underlayment, all the prying will definitely mess thing up. - lol
