Is it possible to remove a T&G oak floor while trying to salvage the materials?
I’m considering the purchase of a house. The living room is 18′ x 20′, of which with only 14 x 20 is oak floor. Someone had the great idea to enlarge the room by adding 4′ to the room, but put in a 3/4″ plywood decking for the floor and cover the entire floor with w/w carpet. I would like to rip up the floor & install hardwood. Can the old flooring be reused to save on some material costs? I was planning on trying to somewhat match the existing material & mixing it all together in a random pattern. Has this been done successfully before.
If it can be done, what tools are needed and steps should I take to take up the old flooring, to do it properly?
