I am renovating an apartment. It was termite damaged. Replaced beam, damaged joists, damaged mudsills. Now on to the sub-floor. The existing subfloor was cut flush with the bottom plates. How do i install the new subfloor? Do i just butt up against the bottom plate? The work will be inspected.
Can’t I go 1 day without spilling my coffee?

I would put 2x4 or 2x6 blocking in on edge up against the plate and then put the subfloor on top.

I was considering that using 2x4. Is it code compliant?

It must be code compliant around my area because we've never had a problem before doing it. You have no choice but to run the subfloor up against the plate in your situation so putting solid blocks in is the way to go.Are you using T&G plywood? Years ago we used 1/2" subfloor no T&G and then either the trimmers or framers would go back and put down a layer of 1/2" underlayment and we would start the underlayment from the opposite sides all the way around so you could never step in-between a bay and have movement. Now we just use 3/4" T&G glued with no underlayment. In your situation if you don't put blocks in when you step on the bay you'll have movement. When I do Add-A-Levels or Additions with crawl spaces sometimes I'll put a 3-1/2" rip on the outside wall with blocks in a bathroom so that the sheat of plywood can be taken up for the Plumber, HVAC and Electricians can work like gentlemen and then if we're still around when everyone is done we'll glue and nail back down the sheat if not the GC will do it.
